To sleep peacefully is man’s greatest desire. Sleep defines one’s mental and physical stability. As we are bustling with our day to day activities we don’t get enough time to look after our body or mind. Other than our mind and body, hair is one important factor that gets affected by poor sleep.

Studies show that a large number of people who suffer from hair loss are the ones who are not sleeping properly. This frantic and stressful lifestyle itself creates health problems and affects both body and mind. Lack of sleep just makes it worse. 

Do you ever think about what happens to our body while we are sleeping? From lowering blood pressure to improving the immune system a good sleep can do wonders. One such wonder is, helping you with hair growth. 

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN WE SLEEP? 

Our body generates human growth hormones while we sleep. Lack of sleep results in lowering hormone levels. You might not be making enough human growth hormones when you keep waking up in between the sleep. Also, lack of sleep causes stress to your body resulting in telogen effluvium, a condition in which hair falls out because of stress. Sleep has a stress-relieving factor, so it's important for you to get some sleep even if you are stressed. Apart from affecting the growth hormones, lack of sleep also results in decreasing melatonin production in our body. Melatonin is a hormone released primarily by the pineal gland, that regulates the sleep-wake cycle. Sleep also produces epithelial cells for hair growth. Hair follicles and the hair growth cycle are mainly impacted by stress, which can lead to unhealthy hair growth and hair loss. You may have noticed that on days you haven’t slept well, your hair doesn’t appear glossy or bouncy.     

WAYS TO GET PERFECT SLEEPING HOURS 

There are five points you need to remember to get a deep sleep. Let’s take a look at them.  

USE COMFORTABLE MATTRESS 

Good sleep comes with the best mattress. Always choose the best mattress according to your comfort. Firstly, understand which type of mattress is friendly for your body. When you have the finest one at your home, good sleep is no more a problem. 

MAINTAIN A SCHEDULE

Maintaining a fixed schedule helps to avoid sleep deficiency. By setting up a fixed bedtime and waking up schedule and following that regularly helps you to have proper sleep. 

MAINTAIN A HEALTHY LIFE 

Keep your body fit and fine by doing exercise, going for a short walk and eating healthy food. Only a healthy body yields a healthy mind and a healthy mind helps you to sleep properly. 

TAKE A SHORT NAP 

A short nap as the name says has to be short. It should not be more than 30 minutes. Sleeping more than 30 minutes during daytime makes it difficult to sleep at night thereby affecting your body and health. 

KEEP YOUR BEDROOM COMFORTABLE

It is very important for you to keep your bedroom comfortable. Put nice curtains, keep it warm, make it dark and cozy. Don’t put extreme bright lights. Always arrange your bedroom according to your comfort. 

It's important to understand the importance of sleep and what role they have in hair growth. Sleep and hair growth are interrelated and we should take proper care of our body, mind, and hair. Take care of your sleep, take care of your body!
